Volunteers Event 22nd October 2008 Related service: Information Service
On 22nd October 2008 Coventry Mind held a “Thank you” event for its volunteers at the Old Hall. Approximately 70 volunteers and staff enjoyed an evening of entertainment and food.
We had a superb buffet which included: lasagne, curry and Chilli, with salads, rice, jacket potatoes and quiches and deserts of cheesecake, gateau and chocolate fudge cake.
After the buffet we heard the stories of three wonderful volunteers, Robert Barber (Info centre & shop), Nora McGeever (Vibes) and Gillian Richardson (Befriending & Drop in) who told us why they decided to volunteer with Coventry Mind and what they gain from their volunteering. All three told very moving stories and brought tears to a few eyes in the room! They were amazingly brave and awe inspiring and my special thanks goes out to them.
Jane Holdsworth (assessor) came along to present the Investing in Volunteers award which we learned we had achieved a few weeks ago. She spoke about how impressed she was with Coventry Mind as an organisation and how she felt throughout her assessment that Coventry Mind truly valued and supported its volunteers, and that it had been her favourite place to assess. She had great pleasure in presenting the award to Kay St. Clair and Denise Lindsay.
At the end of the speeches The Coventry Adult Ensemble delighted us with beautiful renditions of: Prelude from L'Arlesienne Suite by Bizet, The Water Music by Handel, Theme from Jurassic Park by John Williams and Theme from Pirates of the Carribean by Klaus Badelt as well as a mix of Mozart pieces. The Orchestra provided a wonderful way to bring the evening to a close.
Those who commented said what a lovely evening it had been, and said they look forward to the next volunteer event!
Ironbridge visit 17th May 2008 Related service: Befriending
In May the Befriending service went on a pals trip to Ironbridge, which was great! The weather wasn’t great, but the group visited a local market, walked over the Iron bridge and looked at the gorge, (which is quite stunning), and then they got back in the minibus and drove to the Victorian village with its old fashioned bakery and sweet shops etc. Ironbridge is a very historical place and a fantastic day out.
Pub night out 14th April 2008 Related service: Befriending
The befriending service went by minibus to Warwick for a ‘pub night out’. Food (buffet) was provided at the pub and they played pool and darts. Thoroughly enjoyed by all who went
